Ingredient:- 1 cup urad dal, 2 cups idli rava, salt as required, oil ( for greasing).


1 - First take a large bowl and add urad dal into it and wash urad dal with clean water and keep it for soaking for at least 4 to 5 hours.
2 - After 4 to 5 hour drain off the water from the urad dal and grind or blend urad dal and make a smooth and fluffy batter.
3 - Then take a large bowl and add batter into it and keep the bowl aside.
4 - Now in another bowl take idli rava and rinse it with water and then drain the water.
5 - repeat the same step of rinsing idli rava for 2 to 4 times till the idli rava water runs clean.
6 - After this drain all the water from the idli rava and add idli rava into urad dal batter and mix it well.
7 - After mixing the batter nicely then cover the bowl and keep it for fermenting for at least 8 to 10 hours or overnight.
8 - After this keep for fermenting the batter will gets double.
9 - After this add salt as required  into the batter and mix well.
10 - After this take a idli plate and grease the idli plate with oil and add idli batter into it.
11 - Now take a steamer and steam it for at least 10 to 12 minutes. ( If you want to check whether the idli is cooked or not you can put tooth pick into it if it comes out clean then the idli is cooked).
12 - Once cooked remove the idli  from the idli plate and serve it with coconut chutney and sambhar.

Ingredients:- 1 cup rava / sooji,  2 tablespoon oil,  1 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/2 teaspoon yellow moong daal, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, curry leaves, 3/4 green chilies ( chopped), 1/2 or 1 small onion ( chopped), salt as required, 3 cups water, 1 teaspoon ghee, coriander leaves ( chopped).

Process :-

1 - First take a pan or Kadhai and roast 1 cup rava for at least 5 minutes. After roasting it keep it aside.
2 - After this take large kadhai and add oil and heat it. Once the oil gets heat add cumin seeds, mustard seeds into the oil and wait till the mustard seeds and cumin seeds splutter.
3 - Once the mustard and cumin seeds gets splutter then  add green chilies ( finely chopped), onion ( finely chopped), salt and moong dal and mix it well and then add 3 cups of water and keep it for boiling.
4 - Meanwhile take a pan and add some ghee on it and rava / sooji and roast rava on a low flame. Stir it continuously so that no lumps would be formed.
5 - Once the rava gets roasted add rava into the boiling mixture and stir it continuously ( or else lumps will formed) till the rava absorbs all the water.
6 - After this cover the kadhai with a lid for at least 5 minutes so that upma will be cooked well.
7 - After  5 minutes remove the lid and add some chopped coriander leaves and mix well.
8 - And finally upma is ready to serve. You can serve upma with green chutney or plain as you like.
